Join Executive Chef Archie Maclean and accomplished Kaapzicht winemaker Danie Steytler for the ultimate winter food and wine experience at Catharina’s Restaurant at Steenberg on Thursday, 11 May.

Known for his adventurous take on classic dishes, Chef Archie has come up trumps again with a four course menu that will ignite an explosion of flavours when enjoyed with the bountiful Kaapzicht wines. The Steytlers at this 4th generation wine estate in the Bottelary Hills outside Stellenbosch, pride themselves in making wines exactly as they would like to drink them: full-bodied, round and fruity with good structure.

To start the evening on an uplifting note, Kaapzicht Méthode Cap Classique 2011 will be served with a pan-fried seabass adorned with caviar and a lemon & lime crème fraîche blini. For the hugely complex Kaapzicht 1947 Chenin Blanc 2016 made from a 70 year old vineyard, Chef Archie will serve a beautifully textured sous vide kingklip with sesame courgette spaghetti, cucumber & tabasco jelly and miso labneh.

For his signature game dish of impala loin with smoked aubergine maize meal and chakalaka, the muscular, Cabernet Sauvignon driven Bordeaux-style blend, Kaapzicht Steytler Pentagon 2010, hits the mark.

The concentrated flavours of Kaapzicht Ice 2009, fermented from frozen Riesling, Chenin Blanc and Muscat grapes will find your sweet spot with Chef Archie’s fragrant lemon posset, ginger beer ice cream and lemon honey cake.

Catharina’s food and wine evening at R850 per person includes the wine pairings with each of the four courses. To book your seat, call Jackie Quail at Tel: 021-713 2222 or email jackie.quail@steenberghotel.com.
