Top scores for Constantia Glen wines in the USA
09:17:00Constantia Glen has stood up to critical acclaim from two highly respected wine commentators in the USA with a slew of 90+ ratings for all four of their signature Bordeaux-style wines.
Three Constantia Glen wines broke
the venerable 90 point barrier in reviews by Neal Martin in Robert Parker’s
esteemed Wine Advocate, while two wines were rated 91/100 by James Molesworth of Wine Spectator.
The top scoring Constantia Glen
wines in Martin’s South Africa Report published in the April 2017 edition of Wine
Advocate, are Constantia Glen TWO 2015 with 92 points, Constantia Glen THREE
2014 with 91 points and Constantia Glen FIVE 2012 with a score
of 90.
Martin describes the Constantia
Glen TWO, a classic Constantia blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon as “a complex TWO
and a delicious one”. He was equally complimentary about Constantia Glen THREE,
the three-way blend of
Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, describing it as “beautifully
made by winemaker Justin van Wyk”. The flagship Constantia Glen FIVE is a blend
of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec.
Constantia Glen’s two flagship
white wines hit the spot for Molesworth who gave both the Contantia Glen
Sauvignon Blanc 2016 and the Constantia Glen TWO a score of 91
points.
“The long, taut finish has lovely
tension, with a light whiff of shortbread at the very end” is how
Molesworth describes the Sauvignon Blanc. The TWO impressed him with its
“lovely range and contrast”.
