Route 62, which is recognised as one of the country’s most famous and scenic driving routes, offers a broad variety of ‘things to do and see’ for the entire family.

The route is one of six different driving routes as part of the Cape Country Routes Collection (CCR), a group of accommodation and activity establishments located along mapped routes along the coast.

If you're looking to fill the gaps in your holiday guide, CCR has the following recommendations to wrap-up 2017 on a memorable note:

Get Your Gig On: If you’re one for taking the road less travelled and want to finish your year with an epic party, join Van Loveren Family Vineyards at the annual weekend-long Unplugged62 music festival in Barrydale from 29 to 30 December.

In partnership with the Joubert-Tradauw Vineyards and Cellar (Barrydale), where the event will take place, Van Loveren will be playing a key part to ensure an exciting line-up of live entertainment all weekend. Local headline acts include the likes of Jesse Clegg, Francois Van Coke, Jack Parow, Manouche, Crimson House, Albert Frost and Jimm Harrison. Day passes are sold from R700 per person (early bird tickets already sold out) while weekend tickets and camping facilities are available from R850 per person. Visit http://unplugged62.nutickets.co.za/December2017 for more information and bookings.

The December pilgrimage to the Unplugged62 music festival doesn’t only offer a getaway filled with great live music. Along with a touch of authentic Route62 hospitality, the weekend is also an opportunity to experience everything that CCR has to offer, and guarantees good food and wine with a hint of luxury.

If Art Deco is Your Thing: For a bit of old-world glamour, accommodation at Montagu Country Hotel, a 1930s Art Deco styled hotel in the heart of the quaint Montagu town, and a short drive from Barrydale, is still available for those not so keen to camp at the festival. This is a lovely way to fit in serious ‘me and family time’ and serves as a self-preservation measure before/after partying the night away at the festival. Another plus point includes experiencing the festive spirit a tad earlier this season with the hotel’s discounted (and some complimentary!) spa treatments.

Explore the Road in Style: The hotel also offers an American Dream Cars tour. A must-do, as hiring a 1956 Cadillac Sedan De Ville or a 1956 De Soto Firelight Sportsman, promises to be an exhilarating way to explore Montagu and surrounding towns.

Wine and Dine Enroute: For a setting that is ideal for family bonding, a visit to @Four Cousins in Robertson is a no-brainer.The modern family restaurant, wine tasting center and craft brewery cater to all tastes. A visit to @Four Cousins will have you indulging in a variety of food and wine pairings, a craft brewery tour and tastings, whisky pairings – and there’s even kiddies tastings.

This definitely won’t be your usual and congested year-end vacation at the beach.
