Hot off the press and out of the cellar is the release of the Paul Cluver Wines Noble Late Harvest 2017.

What makes this extra special is that it is the first one to be released in three years, as Cellar Master Andries Burger will only release it when he feels it is of the standard that this wine has come to be known for.

‘The 2017 Noble Late Harvest delivers on a superb concentration of flavours, guaranteed to take your senses on a journey of pure wine delight,’ says Andries. The aromas on the nose carry through to the palate with fresh pineapple, marmalade, kumquat and honey characters. The mouth feel is beautifully balanced and is full of a fresh acidity, with a long and lingering aftertaste, it’s the perfect partner to cheeses, desserts or simply enjoy, chilled on its own. Available directly from the Tasting Room at R250 per bottle, as well as select outlets nationwide.

Next in the lineup is the Paul Cluver Wines Estate Riesling 2017, which heralds a slight change in their offering moving forward. Currently they have three styles of Riesling wines (dry, off dry and dessert wine), but from the 2017 vintage going forward there will only be two styles, of which one will include the dessert wine. This change has afforded Andries the platform to create a style of Riesling that oozes elegance, with the perfect balance between sweetness and acidity.

Andries describes the wine as being pale in colour with a beautiful green apple tinge. The nose shows fresh green apple, apple blossom, beeswax and fynbos honey notes. The palate is crisp and clean, which can be likened to lemon sorbet. There is a great interplay between the naturally retained residual sugar and the acidity. Generally regarded as restrained, it displays typical Riesling ‘nervousness’. The mineral core, which is linked to the shale rich soils in which the vines grow, astounds. It is the reason for the wine structure and the lingering after taste. Perfect hot weather wine, it’s beautifully refreshing.

The Riesling is the perfect partner to a Gorgonzola and roasted sweet potato salad with honey dressing. Serve with pan fried prawns with paprika, toasted sesame and yoghurt dressing, or even roast pork chops with pomegranate and coriander salsa. Simply sublime! Available from most outlets nationwide, or directly from the Tasting Room at R100 per bottle.
