Grande Provence manor house

Welcoming, attentive staff make the secluded Owner’s Cottage and La Provençale a rejuvenating private retreat. Steeped in history, the estate dates back to 1694, around the time of the first French Huguenots in Franschhoek. The property has a wide choice of seasonal accommodation packages catering for every need from romantic getaways to gourmet and family options. Take advantage of the fabulous Heartland rates available between April and September and enjoy the wonderful value of luxurious accommodation on this beautiful estate.

Accommodation  at The Owner's Cottage
The Owner’s Cottage at Grande Provence exudes period grandeur and contemporary luxury for the ultimate escape. The beautifully appointed private cottage comprises four rooms, a deluxe suite, lounge and conservatory leading out to the soothing pool area set in a country garden. Blanketed in a palette of muted charcoal greys and white linen, the rooms beckon an indulgent experience.

Accommodation  at The Owner's Cottage
At La Provençale guests are accommodated in style with two en suite bedrooms, separated for privacy by a shared lounge. The lounge leads directly onto a relaxing outdoor terrace and swimming pool surrounded by spectacular views and the lush vines of the estate. This is the quintessential private getaway for families or close friends.

Just a stone's throw away you will find The Restaurant where Executive Chef Guy Bennett creates perfection on a plate. In contrast to the 18th century Manor House, The Restaurant and wine tasting area of Grande Provence project a chic industrial presence. Drawing from the best local seasonal produce Chef Guy lives out his passion for modern South African cuisine. With his strong focus on the visual aspects of food and great depth of flavour, every ingredient finds its voice under his deft hand.

The Restaurant at Grande Provence food and wine
The Restaurant serves lunch and dinner à la carte as well as picnics under majestic oaks. An elaborate 6-course gourmand dégustation menu is available in the restaurant by prior arrangement. For the ultimate indulgence, Chef Guy hosts a Chef’s Table in the stately Jonkershuis private dining room for a table of six or more.

The Jonkershuis
Picture perfect and a fine example of early Cape Dutch architecture with its carefully restored period gable and thatched roof, The Jonkershuis is the ideal location for exclusive private receptions and intimate weddings.

An award winning collection of wines crafted in the boutique Winery at Grande Provence is available for tasting and purchase at the cellar door. In addition to the popular Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, the estate’s flagship wines, The Grande Provence Red and Grande Provence White, enjoy wide critical acclaim. One of the new additions to the range, the Grande Provence Amphora, is a Chenin Blanc based blend from one of the oldest vineyards on the estate. Fermented in four 400 litre Tuscan clay amphorae capturing over 6 000 years of winemaking history harking back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, the aromatic and ultra-elegant Grande Provence Amphora has set a new bench mark for this style of wine. Grande Provence has also added an intriguing Zinfandel to its range of reds, with new additions to the Méthode Cap Classique range. In the hands of winemaker Hagen Viljoen, who joined Grande Provence in 2017, the winery holds great promise of new things to come.

The Tasting Room at Grande Provence
Daily cellar tours and a variety of wine tastings are available at the Tasting Room including options served with canapés. The oyster bar in the Sculpture Garden serves fresh oysters and bubbly during the summer months. For a more up close and personal encounter, wine lovers can embark on a unique guided wine blending journey and take home their very own personalised blend.

A visual feast awaits at The Gallery, one of the Cape’s most highly regarded galleries. Home to some of South Africa’s finest established and emerging artists, the gallery flows into the Sculpture Garden with its ever evolving collection of monumental works in a variety of media. Regular exhibitions are hosted throughout the year. Guests looking for a memento to remind them of their stay at Grande Provence can pop into The Shop which offers a fine collection of African artefacts, collectables and a superb range of South African designer jewellery.
