Carne SA champions rare vintage wines
19:19:00A well-aged steak is at its best when enjoyed with a well-matured red wine and at Carne SA, Chef-proprietor Giorgio Nava takes great pride in serving his guests some of the finest South African and Italian wines.
The oldest wines in the Carne Vintage Collection are the ultra-elegant 2001 and 2003 Morgenster Estate Bordeaux reds. A variety of Neethlingshof wines including their Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Malbec and Merlot ranging in age from eight to 11 years, are remarkably affordable for this level of wine enjoyment. Other cellar gems worth exploring are Le Bonheur Prima 2008 and Radford Dale Black Rock 2009 among the blends. Older Plaisir de Merle and Alto wines are also well represented. If you don’t mind spending a little more, the Avondale Samara 2009 Shiraz and Bouchard Finlayson Galpin Peak 2012 Pinot Noir are yours for the taking.
The Carne Vintage Collection includes some mature white wines such as Cape of Good Hope 2011 Chardonnay and 2013 Chenin Blanc, and a vibrant 2014 Cartology Chenin Blanc/Semillon by Alheit Vineyards.
Nava who pioneered a new approach to meat with the opening of Carne SA in 2008, is a master of letting the meat do the talking, from his specialist steaks the more adventurous, unfamiliar cuts.
