Stellenbosch Hills has released the new vintage of its flagship, limited-edition 1707 Reserve White, a wine that has consistently amassed awards for the renowned winery.

The Stellenbosch Hills 1707 Reserve White 2016 is an exciting Chardonnay-led blend with Semillon and Viognier, and it’s the must-have wine of the season.

Recent awards that show this sublime blend’s consistency of excellence include Double Platinum at the 2018 National Wine Challenge/Top 100 SA Wines; Double Gold at the 2018 Vitis Vinifera and 2018 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirit Awards; Gold at the 2018 Gold Wine Awards; and four-stars in the 2018 Platter’s South African Wine Guide.

International panels have also acknowledged its global appeal, with Gold status awarded at 2018 Sakura Japan and Silver medals clinched at 2018 Decanter Asia and 2018 International Wine & Spirit Competition.

A fitting ambassador of its sublime terroir, the wine has an aromatic nose of stone fruit, honey, zesty citrus and vanilla oak spice. The palate is elegant and afforded balance by lively flavours of citrus and a crisp acidity. Rich and textured, the wine lingers long after the last sip.

All the components of the blend come from one grower located in the Stellenbosch Kloof area, which is known for its ideal climate and fertile soils. The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness to ensure only the best qualities of the cultivars are represented in the final blend.

Each component was matured on the lees in 300-litre French oak barrels for 10 months, with batonage – or lees-stirring – every two weeks.

The result is a wine that will continue to improve in-bottle for two to three years. Once opened, it makes a fine partner to sushi, fish curry, mussel soup, risotto, grilled chicken and cream-based dishes.
The 1707 range comprises the Stellenbosch Hills' flagship wine blends – a red and the Reserve White – and is named after the year the first farms were allocated in the Vlottenburg area of Stellenbosch, where Stellenbosch Hills has its home. Today, as a member organisation Stellenbosch Hills produces a range of wines from some of the most prized terroirs in the heartland of South African wine.

The latest 2016 vintage of Stellenbosch Hills 1707 Reserve White retails for around R100/bottle and is available from the winery, via its website, and through leading wine retailers and hospitality establishments countrywide. Strict selection meant only 3 000 bottles of this champion blend were produced.
