As 2018 draws to a close and summer beckons, it’s a great time to look back and savour the best Boland Cellar has to offer and enjoy a little inspiration for the festive season’s food and wine pairings. Boland Cellar wine lovers can look forward to a selection of varietals that received widespread local and international acclaim


Here is a look at Boland Cellar’s proudest 2018 achievements:

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Competition, 10 May
The Talent & Terroir Sauvignon Blanc 2017 fared exceptionally well at this year’s Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, held in Beijing, China. The fresh and expressive wine received gold.

Signature Red Blend Report Competition, 24 July
The One Formation Pinotage / Shiraz / Grenache 2016 blend received 90 points at this year’s competition.

The Annual South African Young Wine Show, 25 August
Boland Cellar was awarded gold for its Cabernet Franc and the Boland Cellar Merlot was awarded with the Coastal Wine Export Trophy for the Paarl region’s champion Merlot – one of the only two Merlots to be awarded gold at the show.

Ultra-Value Wine Challenge, 26 September
The Sixty-40 Chenin Blanc / Sauvignon Blanc 2018 blend and Five Climates Unwooded Chenin Blanc 2018 wines took gold.

The Annual Paarl Wine Challenge, 28 September
The One Formation Chenin Blanc / Sauvignon Blanc / Grenache Blanc 2018 blend won the trophy for Best White Wine.

The Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards, 29 September
The Talent & Terroir Sauvignon 2018 was awarded gold.

The Veritas Awards, 6 October
The Reserve No 1 Chenin Unwooded 2017, and the One Formation Chenin Blanc / Sauvignon Blanc / Grenache Blanc 2018 blend were both awarded gold.

2018 List of 5–Star Wines Announcement, 5 November
Boland Cellar walked away with 4 Stars for the following wines at South Africa’s finest winemakers gathering, where the Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide 2019 was also launched:

-       Reserve No 1 Chenin Blanc Unwooded 2018
-       Reserve No 1 Shiraz 2014
-       Reserve No 1 Shiraz 2016

To crown the year’s achievements, Boland Cellar won a South African Airways (SAA) tender for the Talent & Terroir Sauvignon Blanc 2018. The now ‘proudly South African favourite’ wine will be available in May on all SAA international business class flights and SAA Premium Lounges.

These award-winning wines can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes. Pair the much-loved One Formation Pinotage / Shiraz / Grenache 2016 blend with a succulent steak or beef stew for a near-perfect dinner, for instance. For that impromptu summer gathering with friends, try a cheese assortment and fruit platter paired with the Talent & Terroir Sauvignon Blanc 2017.
