Boschendal launches Friday Night Market
15:54:00With summer in full swing, there’s an unwavering hankering towards fresh whole foods. And in perfect timing, Boschendal has opened up its Werf Food Garden harvest to the public with its newly launched Friday Night Market.
Market-goers can shop the same fresh seasonal produce friends of the farm have come to know and love, dining at the estate’s Werf Restaurant, recently lauded for sustainability at the Mercedes-Benz Eat Out Awards.
In keeping with Boschendal’s commitment to sustainability and the local community, this new venture has a reach and impact further than that of the estate. The Friday Night Market acts as a meeting point for local farmers to showcase their produce to the public: from the The Table at De Meye’s prized preserves to freshly caught SASSI approved fish sourced via Abalobi, a platform which connects small scale fisheries directly with buyers – “from hook to cook”.
Set in the historic, oak-lined Werf Area of the farm, the Friday Night Market makes for an unrivalled shopping experience, with horticulturist and Werf Food Garden manager, Megan McCarthy, and butcher, Rainer Raschbichler, there to advise on the day’s harvest and best cuts. Add to that a live music act, stone-fired pizza and a glass of wine for the perfect end of week wind down.
Whether visiting the estate for the evening or staying overnight in one of Boschendal’s farm cottages, there’s no doubt that any meal prepared with this market’s produce will be savoured!
