“The inaugural Stellenbosch Fine Wine & Food Festival, presented by Nedbank Private Wealth was a resounding success,” this is the feedback from Stellenbosch Wine Routes, and its associated partner, Nedbank Private Wealth, following a bustling festival this past weekend.

On Saturday, 3 August, food and wine lovers descended on Stellenbosch, one of South Africa’s favourite gourmet destinations, to experience this town’s finest culinary offerings.

Stellenbosch’s town hall hosted the town’s finest winemakers and chefs, who curated spectacular food-and-wine pairing experiences for the guests who attended. Chefs included Michael Deg, from Cavalli Restaurant, Bertus Basson from Overture and Eike, Virgil Kahn from Indochine Restaurant, George Jardine from Jardine Restaurant, Lucas Carstens from Majeka Kitchen and Maritz Jacobs from Longridge Restaurant. Each of these fine culinary artists developed exquisite pairings to the premium Stellenbosch-based wines on offer.

Visitors to the festival had the opportunity to not only enjoy these delicious chef creations, but could also explore more than 100 of Stellenbosch’s most premium and rare wine offerings, including the exclusive Simonsig The Garland Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, Delaire Graff Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Saxenburg Shiraz Select 2013 and Spier Frans K Smit 2015.

“What an incredible event! Congratulations to the organisers, the winemakers, the chefs and the people of Stellenbosch for putting on such a wonderful showcase of the best of Stellenbosch. We were so proud to be part of something so special and so much fun.” Says Richard Mulholland, Head of Nedbank Private Wealth, Coastal Region.

“Whilst Nedbank Private Wealth has a proud 185-year history in the Western Cape, we continue to strive to remain innovative, relevant and supportive of our clients and their communities. We want to ensure that our global financial expertise is put to good work and for good causes. This intent has been evident through numerous current initiatives in and around Stellenbosch including our ongoing support of the Cape Wine Auction, our long-standing support of the Cape Winemakers’ Guild, and Nedbank’s sponsorship of Stellenbosch University’s Innovation Launch Lab. At the end of the day we aspire to ensure that we help our clients see money differently and ensure that we help them meet their financial goals. Whether you are a business or an individual we would welcome the opportunity to assist you with any of your financial needs across banking, lending, financial advice, estate planning, investments, insurance and philanthropy.” Elmarie Rabe, Manager of Stellenbosch Wine Routes said that visitors were particularly impressed by the value the Stellenbosch Fine Wine & Food Festival provided them with. “Where else can you experience food from South Africa’s best chefs, and South Africa’s finest wines in a gorgeous setting in the heart of the Cape Winelands? This festival truly had all the elements needed for a spectacular experience that did not skimp on any fronts. We are incredibly satisfied that visitors agreed.”

Rabe said that planning for a similar festival is already underway, and visitors are urged to plan for August 2020 accordingly.

“This festival also encouraged visitors to stay longer and indulge in the pleasures of Stellenbosch, South Africa’s Wine Tourism capital. This town is a well-kept secret in winter and allows for visitors to explore the town in a quieter setting, with wine estates catering to colder days with cosy firesides and hearty food and drinks,” Rabe added.

Visitors are urged to follow the #VisitStellenbosch campaign on social media and make use of the enticing winter packages currently on offer. Visit www.wineroute.co.za for more.
