Survivor, the unbridled Swartland wine range, is celebrating Pinotage Day on Saturday, 12 October with a special tasting of two national treasures, biltong and its ABSA Top 10 Pinotage.

A proud benchmark of this South African grape variety, the Pinotage 2017 is the second Survivor vintage to be ranked Top 10 in this prestigious wine competition.

The special Pinotage & Biltong tasting pairs the wine with beef biltong and is available at R25 at the Overhex Tasting Room outside Worcester for the entire week from Monday, 7 to Sunday, 13 October. The wine will also be available for online purchases at https://shop.overhex.com/collections/survivor-wines/ with a 10% saving during the whole of next week, while stocks last.

As the proud producer of two Top 10 Pinotage wines, Overhex Wines International stands tall as one the country’s top custodians of this home grown grape variety. The Pinotage grape, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut, also known as Hermitage, is the brain child of Prof Abraham Izak Perold who created the variety in 1925.

Meticulously crafted from 100% Swartland Pinotage grapes, the 2017 Survivor vintage is a hearty expression of ripe prune, plum and juicy cherries complemented by elegant notes of spice and cedar.

Survivor takes its name from the tale of a fearless Nguni cow that jumped off an open bakkie, landing practically unscathed with just a few scrapes and bruises in the middle of a Swartland vineyard.
