Although travelling seems impossible at this stage we invite you to transport your imagination to Middelvlei Wines, which is situated in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands.

A small yet dynamic farm, which has been owned and run by the Momberg family since 1919. As you enter the gates leading to the farm you are met by the breathtaking vineyard-strewn Amphitheatre, which overlooks the Bottelary Hills and the upper reaches of the Devon Valley.

This is where you will also get to indulge in the popular Boerebraai, a unique outdoor barbecue experience, and the perfect excuse to safely venture outdoors again post lockdown. An integral part of our South African heritage, the team at Middelvlei have taken this social event to the next level. Their resident braai expert prepares your chops, boerewors and chicken kebabs to perfection, as you sit back, relax and sample the superb Middelvlei wines on offer. The enticing aromas of the homemade potbrood and braaibroodjies give you a sneak peek of what lies ahead for your foodie experience, whilst Ben Momberg’s homemade pâté and Ouma Annie’s pumpkin fritters have placed the Middelvlei Boerebraai experience in a league of their own.

Make the most of the perfect Cape weather and sit outside on the sprawling verandah whilst admiring the views. On colder days the cozy fireplace inside will add extra warmth. The range of wines perfectly complement what can only be described as hearty South African comfort food. The selection of wines includes a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Merlot and a Pinotage.

The team at Middelvlei can’t wait to welcome visitors back to the farm, and while everyone is still safely in the confines of their homes they thought it best to challenge aspirant chefs to showcase their interpretation of a braaibroodjie with the Braaibroodjie Challenge.

Simply share your photos of your lockdown braai with a pic of  your braaibroodjie and tell us what ingredient you put on your sandwich. Post to your relevant social media platform, tagging Middelvlei Wines and include #braaibroodjiechallenge. Also tell us why it deserves to be included on the Middelvlei menu. The winner will receive a Braaibroodjie and Wine Pairing for two, post lockdown.
