Survivor Bushvine Chenin Blanc Reserve 2019 is the alter ego of the award winning Survivor Pinotage Reserve crowned Best Pinotage overall at the 2019 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show for the maiden 2017 vintage. Both limited release wines are firmly rooted in the Swartland and express a profound sense of place. Crafted from select parcels of low-yielding vineyards, these are wines of great complexity and finesse, showcasing the best of what the Swartland region can produce.
“The art of winemaking lies in the vineyards and with natural low-yielding bushvines you can create something extraordinary. This is exactly what we are trying to achieve with our Survivor Reserve range. In keeping with our focus on terroir we have selected the best older Chenin Blanc bushvine blocks to showcase the essence of the Swartland in this wine,” says winemaker Ben Snyman.
Only 1 800 individually numbered bottles of Survivor Bushvine Chenin Blanc Reserve 2019 have been produced. This complex Chenin Blanc of stylish elegance is the result of meticulous vinification of 100% Chenin Blanc grapes hand selected for their intensity and concentration, followed by five months of barrel maturation. The wine is creamy and rich and rewards with a delightful bouquet of apricot, peach and yellow apple enlivened by a hint of zesty lemon.
Allowing the grapes to express their true, inherent character, the bulk of the wine (80%) was fermented naturally in new French oak barrels with the rest inoculated with specially selected yeast in second and third-fill barrels.
This top tier Survivor Bushvine Chenin Blanc Reserve is presented in an attractive three-bottle case, featuring unique labels depicting the spirited Nguni cow that inspires the Survivor range. The wine can also be purchased individually at a cellar door price of R290 per bottle. For online purchases visit survivorwines.com/wine-range/reserve-range/.
Every bottle of Survivor is supported by an interactive AR experience allowing you to explore the different vineyard sites and watch Survivor’s sense of place unfold.
Activated by a dedicated QR code on the back of the bottle, the Survivor journey comes to life when the label is scanned on your smartphone.
