The world will never forget the year 2020, with the dark clouds of the coronavirus turning lives upside down in South Africa and across the globe. The wine industry is one of the sectors hardest hit by the effects of Covid-19 in 2020, and unfortunately is once again suffering under a renewed alcohol ban.

“But perhaps, changing the lens through which we see the world can help us find the silver lining amidst the amidst the pandemic’s dark disruption, to remain grateful and hopeful and optimistic during these challenging times.” says Ankia Niemann, Head of Marketing and Sales at Robertson Winery.”

Ankia continues to reflect, “The lockdown has compelled us, to review the way we do business, to learn to do things differently, to demonstrate resilience, ingenuity, improvisation and creativity, to embrace technology, to identify and capitalise on opportunities, to fast-track the development of our online marketing strategy on a variety of platforms, and much more… “

“Rays of sunshine are always uplifting, but when they appear in the midst of a storm, the appreciation is inordinately enhanced. In a time of crisis, we have gratefully witnessed: the benefits of having a well-established brand, and the unwavering loyalty and support of our followers, both locally and abroad. A wide variety of prestigious awards received for our wines - 19 Medals - towards the end of ‘a year to forget’ were welcomed with open arms, reaffirming our reputation as a producer of excellent wines at affordable prices. It was immensely rewarding to have the quality of all our wines, across different wine styles, acknowledged by prominent wine judges and panellists, paying testament to the quality grapes grown by our 31 producers and the dedication of our teams.”

Ankia concludes: “We have all experienced this pandemic and its devasting effects together. It is in the sharing of this tumultuous ordeal that lies our hope for the future. A collective fortitude will always be more powerful. We will prevail.”
