Constantia Glen TWO has triumphed as the best South African Sauvignon/Semillon blend at the 2021 International Wine Challenge (IWC), bringing home the trophy for the third time and clinching its 5th gold medal in this prestigious London based competition, since first entering the wines in 2014.

The 2019 vintage of this flagship white Bordeaux-style blend just released by the family-owned Constantia Glen wine estate, was awarded gold and 95/100 points by the IWC judging panel.

This is the third major international accolade for the 2019 vintage after the wine scored 93 points at the prestigious 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards in London and the highly respected Tim Atkin South Africa 2020 Special Report.

Now in its 37th year, the IWC is widely held as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged wine competition. This year, thousands of wines from 50 countries were assessed and judged for their faithfulness to style, region and vintage.

The IWC panel describes the Constantia Glen TWO 2019 as a “Classy example of this blend with sauvignon giving freshness and sémillon giving body with the oak ageing pulling the two together. Pungent and exuberant notes of green pea, grapefruit pith and spice with a textured waxy palate.”

The wine is a consummate blend of Sauvignon Blanc (67%), lending acidity and backbone, and Sémillon (33%) contributing to the waxy weight, richness and texture.
“The 2019 has terrific freshness, depth and elegance with remarkable fruit concentration. It is tightly wound in its youth but shows absolute fruit purity as well as uplifting citrus and waxy notes, which will integrate and develop with time into an exceptionally refined wine,” is how winemaker Justin van Wyk describes this lauded wine.
