Relatively new to the South African market, as initially exported to the Far East, Stellenview Premium Wines’ Kruger Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 shared the winners stage in this year’s Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report.

Not only receiving an impressive 93 points, but was also listed as a Top 10 wine by the judging panel.

Seventy-one producers submitted entries for this year’s Cabernet Sauvignon Report, which saw the three-person panel working their way through 86 entries, with the scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale. The judging panel was chaired by Christian Eedes, who was joined by Roland Peens and James Pietersen of Wine Cellar.

Already part of an award winning lineage with past awards including Decanter World Wine Award, Old Mutual Trophy for Best Red Wine, American Express Award for Best Cabernet Sauvignon as well as the Michelangelo Awards, the Kruger Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is described as being dark red in colour with aromas of vanilla and coconut, which are perfectly complemented by blueberry flavours. These flavours carry through perfectly onto the palate with a fine tannin structure, and fruity finish. Best enjoyed with flavourful red meat dishes the Cabernet Sauvignon is available via the online wine shop at R175 per bottle.

Stellenview Premium Wines founder, winemaker and entrepreneur, Reino Kruger established the brand in 2009 (primarily for export markets to the Far East), and one of the ranges to be introduced the Kruger Family Reserve, which pays homage to his family. The Kruger Family heritage dates back to the early 1700’s with the first settlers to South Africa.

Together with the Cabernet Sauvignon, other wines in the range include a Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay represent the best fruit, meticulously vinified and aged in oak barrels with very little intervention, while the Sauvignon Blanc is unwooded with extended lees contact. Currently the wines are not available in retail outlets, but they are available to purchase online at www.stellenviewwines.com, which makes for fuss-free purchasing in the comfort of your home.
