What better way to relax and celebrate the start of summer than visiting the countryside and getting closer to nature?

When planning your trip, be it an extended road trip, a mini getaway or simply getting the kids out of the house, make sure to include De Krans Wines in Calitzdorp – rated as TripAdvisor’s top destination in Calitzdorp.

During the months of November through to February De Krans invites visitors to partake in a farm favourite of picking seasonal fruit. From 26 November to 5 December the Bulida apricots will be available to pick at R7.50 per kg. For delicious Oom Sarel cling peaches, make sure to save the dates 17 to 26 December when they will be ready for perfect pickings at R8.00 per kg.

Kick off the New Year by picking your share of sweet Hanepoot grapes from 1 February to 20 February 2022 at R9.50 per kg. With fruit picking at De Krans being one of the most anticipated events on our calendar year, we were devastated following a recent hailstorm that caused widespread damage in the Calitzdorp area (the worst hailstorm since 1993). As a result of this damage and the loss of quantity, we have decided to shorten the picking period and also to lower our prices. However, we can assure you that despite these challenges, we remain positive and look forward to welcome you to share in this age-old tradition at De Krans. As always, fruit picking is highly subject to availability, and this year even more so. We advise you to please follow our social media platform for any announced changes and to please phone the farm at least a day before your planned visit to confirm availability.

Whether you visit De Krans for fruit picking, or simply to taste our wide range of award-winning wines (or both), your visit won’t be complete without a stop at the De Krans Bistro & Deli for a chilled glass of De Krans wine and a cheese platter, a cappuccino or a delicious breakfast or lunch. The De Krans Bistro & Deli, situated at the farm, is home to a selection of delicious country cuisine, where guests can enjoy hearty, wholesome dishes, ranging from a variety of delicious breakfast options, open deli sandwiches, light lunches, a selection of gourmet burgers and seasonal salads. All the dishes have been paired to be enjoyed with wines from the De Krans range, creating the perfect food and wine pairing. For those with a sweet tooth, be sure to keep an eye out for the delicious desserts on offer. Visitors can choose to sit indoors, which is air conditioned and a blessing on those sweltering Karoo days. Alternatively, choose to sit outside in the shade of the trellised Hanepoot vineyard. There is also a playground for young children, two boules courses, as well as a walk-around chess-board, making De Krans a wonderful place for the whole family to visit this summer.

The deli also offers visitors a wide selection of only the finest products sourced in and around Calitzdorp and the Klein Karoo. These include local olives, olive oil, canned and dried fruit, and preserves. Other treats include homemade rusks, Calitzdorp honey and other delicious gems from the area.

De Krans is home to a range of more than 20 superb wines and your visit won’t be complete without sampling some to add to your collection. The collection ranges from port-styled to still wines, and boast numerous local and international accolades amongst them. Whilst visiting be sure to stock on some of these which are available to purchase directly from the cellar. Should you not be able to make the trip to Calitzdorp, the wines are available to order online on www.dekrans.co.za, or from most retail outlets nationwide.
