Steenberg, one of the jewels of the Constantia Wine Valley, is synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc, offering a diversity of styles and wines of remarkable ageability.

In celebration of International Sauvignon Blanc Day on Friday, 6 May 2022, Steenberg has dedicated the entire month of May to this cornerstone variety with exciting tasting experiences for visitors to the Tasting Room, restaurant patrons at Tryn and Bistro Sixteen82, hotel guests and Wine Club members.

Adding the element of surprise, wine lovers will be taken on a mystery journey of five different expressions of Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc, all tasted blind. The Secret Tasting includes an unexpected older vintage allowing guests to discover the beauty of a well-aged Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc. Visitors to the Tasting Room during May will also have the rare opportunity of buying treasured older vintages from the Steenberg vinoteque.

From a vivacious bubbly to a trio of elegant wines of great complexity, each Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc is an individual expression of the farm’s unique terroir. Crafted from idyllic cool climate vineyards, Steenberg’s prowess as a producer of top tier Sauvignon Blanc is built on the farm’s dedicated focus on this variety spanning over 30 years.

“Our vines are rooted in lean soils which are excellent for Sauvignon Blanc as they naturally keep the yields low, concentrate the flavours and add a distinctive minerality to the wines. This incredible terroir and the unique micro climate of our cool, east facing slopes inspire us daily to create wines with a strong sense of place,” says Cellarmaster Elunda Basson.
