Ranked with some of the finest in the country, Perdeberg Cellar’s Endura Winemaker’s Selection Cape Blend 2020 has yet again been included in the lineup as one of the best Cape blends at the 2023 Perold Absa Cape Blend Awards.

Perdeberg Cellar’s Endura Winemaker’s Selection Cape Blend 2020
Named in honour of Professor A.I. Perold, the ‘Father of Pinotage’, the competition, which was established in 2011, focuses exclusively on Cape Blends, with Pinotage as its primary base component. The objective is to identify five Cape Blend wines annually, of which the quality characteristics are so uniquely distinctive that they could have a meaningful impact on the international wine market, to the benefit of South Africa.

No stranger to this competition the Endura Winemaker’s Selection Cape Blend has been included in this prestigious lineup no less than two times, which included the 2017, 2018 and 2020 vintages. The last two vintages received top honours at the competition in their respective years.

“To be celebrated with some of the best Cape blend producers in the country is not only a humbling experience, but a testament to our commitment as an industry to continue to experiment with the diversity of Pinotage and realise Prof Perold’s dream to make it one of the finest cultivars,” says Perdeberg Cellarmaster Albertus Louw

Handcrafted with meticulous care from grapes nurtured in the revered dryland vineyards of the Paarl region, this wine represents the epitome of excellence and the mastery of winemaking. A tribute to the enduring journey of survival the vines embark on each year, Endura showcases the perfect harmony between nature, heritage, and passion. A blend of Pinotage (52%), Cabernet Sauvignon (24%) and Malbec (24%), the Endura Winemaker’s Selection Cape Blend 2020 is one you want to purchase for enjoyment now, as well as a few additional bottles to see how it develops as it ages within the next five to eight years. A premium limited release this wine is bottled only when there’s a vintage good enough to keep company with its exceptional forerunners. Only the best French oak barrels were selected to allow the final blend to age for 18 months before bottling. The result of the current vintage is a wine showcasing the perfect harmony of flavours and balance.
A dark purple-red colour, which is consistent with its taste profile, the wine showcases aromas of dark berries, blackcurrant, and vanilla flavours, with spicy nuances on the nose. On the palate you’ll be met with hints of chocolate, blueberries, and cherries, which are well-structured and elegant, leaving you with a lingering smooth finish. The wine pairs beautifully with rich flavourful dishes, such as Cape Malay curries, red meat and wild game dishes. Available directly from the Tasting Room at R350 per bottle, as well as selected boutique wine outlets or online from the Perdeberg Wine Shop at www.perdeberg.co.za.
