The Bistro at Brookdale Estate Presents Lourens Family Wines Dinner

The Bistro at Brookdale Estate is collaborating with Lourens Family Wines in Paarl to present a Winemaker’s Dinner on Thursday 2 November 2023.

Brookdale’s Executive Chef, Gary Coetzee will prepare an exciting 5-course menu paired with wines presented by Winemaker Franco Lourens.

Bookings are essential at R795 per person.

Lourens Family Wines is a small family-owned wine business which officially started in January 2016. Franco Lourens says: ‘We aim to produce honest wines that tell a story about where the grapes are from, and the passionate farmers farming the specific sites or vineyards. We want to make wines that have personality and character, and most importantly, taste good! My winemaking philosophy is pretty simple and straight forward. I try to make honest wines with minimal interference in the winery and I truly believe that the biggest part of my wines, are made in the vineyards. I don't add any yeast, enzymes or fining agents and I only use older, neutral oak barrels for maturation. I love to work with lesser-known varieties and learning about them more and more every year.’

The gastronomic event will showcase the four boutique wines within the Lourens Family Wines portfolio. White blend Lindi Carien 2022 will be served with snoek pâté, toasted brioche and tomato salad; followed by Skuinskap Steen 2022 crafted from 46-year old single vineyard Chenin Blanc from Piekenierskloof, complemented by Tandoori linefish, marsala roasted prawns, mebos purée, coriander & cumin curd.

Bobotie taco with bayleaf custard, spiced prune chutney, sweet & sour cucumber sambal follows with the Grenache Noir, Lau Ilse 2022; and Lamb bredie, slow-braised lamb knuckle, tomato and aromatic spices, paired with the Swartland red blend Howard John 2022.

Concluding on a high note, Cape brandy pudding with sago pearls, banana and cinnamon crémeux and spiced honeycomb gelato will be enjoyed with Brookdale’s own Chenin Blanc 2021.
